A Guthrie man feels lucky to have his weiner-lab mix back home.
The dog went missing on May 31 in Guthrie and ended up three states away.
"I probably burned half a tank of gas hollering for Lady Bird," says Allie Blevins. "I went through the grieving process.
Blevins thought his dog of more than 10 years was gone for good. Turns out, the dog had been taken by some transients who hopped a train out of Oklahoma.
Luckily, a man in Iowa noticed her city dog tags and called Guthrie Animal Control. That's when Blevins got the news that his dog ended up more than 500 miles away.
Blevins' first thought? "How did she get to Boone, Iowa."
The man who noticed the tags in Iowa had a friend who was a truck driver about to head out on the road through Oklahoma. The trucker agreed to drive Lady Bird to the Sooner State. Seven days after his dog went missing, Allie got Lady Bird back along the Kilpatrick Turnpike.
"He handed me Lady Bird and she just looked at me like…'I'm dying," says Blevins. "For two days she did nothing but put her head on my thigh and sleep."
Lady Bird and Allie are doing just fine now.
