Oklahoma City University’s Charlton Jones earned NAIA all-American honorable-mention and NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors Wednesday.
Jones, a senior from Katy, Texas, was also named first team all-Sooner Athletic Conference, academic all-SAC and CoSIDA college-division academic all-district 7 in 2012-13.
Jones averaged 14.3 points, 5.8 assists and 5.6 rebounds per game for the Stars this season. The 6-foot-1 points guard led OCU and the SAC in assists per game and also led the team in rebounds and steals per game. Jones finished the season ranked eighth in NAIA Division I in assists per game (5.8) and assist/turnover ratio (2.6) and ninth in total assists (159).
Jones scored 20 points against Rogers State and 21 points against John Brown (Ark.) in the SAC Tournament to help OCU to its ninth SAC Tournament title. Jones was named tournament most valuable player and helped the 17-11 Stars make their first NAIA Division I Tournament since 2010.
Jones owns a 3.50 grade point average while majoring in criminal justice at OCU.
Jones tallied 739 points, 257 rebounds, 313 assists and 85 steals as a Star and was named honorable mention all-SAC a season ago.
