Smart, who is averaging 15.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.0 steals per game this season, is joined on the first team by Georgetown's Otto Porter, Kelly Olynyk of Gonzaga, Indiana's Victor Oladipo and Trey Burke of Michigan.
The only other Cowboys who have ever made Sporting News' All-America first team are James Anderson (2010), Gale McArthur (1951) and Bob Kurland (1945 & '46). Smart is also the first Cowboy to ever be honored as the national Freshman of the Year by any publication.
Smart and the rest of the Cowboys will travel to Kansas City, Mo., this week to compete in the 2013 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championships. OSU will face Baylor on Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. in the Sprint Center.
