The sheriff in Major County is taking the blame for a communication snafu last week that allowed a man who police say had tried to run over a sheriff's deputy to walk free.
Investigators say 29-year-old Edgar Borjas was shot twice last Thursday by a Major County Sheriff's deputy, after he stole that deputy's SUV. Borjas ended up at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. But Sunday, Borjas signed himself out of the hospital and walked away.

Authorities in Laredo, Texas caught Borjas Wednesday night at the Mexican border. Major County Sheriff Steven Randolph says his office planned to fax a warrant to OU Medical Center last Friday to instruct the hospital to hold Borjas until a deputy got there. Randolph says the fax didn't get there in time.

"We do not blame the hospital for letting him go," he said. "It was our fault for not getting the warrant down in time."
Randolph says Borjas will be transferred back to Major County from Texas sometime next week.
