Oklahoma's Nicole Griffin earned her first Big 12 Women's Basketball Player of the Week selection as voted by a media panel.
Griffin averaged 17.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in Oklahoma's victories at Kansas State and versus then-No. 22 Oklahoma State last week.
Griffin totaled 13 points, five rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in Oklahoma's 74-68 win at Kansas State on Feb. 6 and scored a career-high 21 points with five rebounds, one assist and two blocks to lead the Sooners to an 80-61 victory in the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Bedlam Series game in Norman.
The junior center was equally impressive defensively, registering three rejections to reach a career total of 115 and pass Ashley Paris (2006-09) for fourth on Oklahoma's all-time blocks list. Opposing post players combined for just 17 total points in the two games.
Griffin shared the player of the week honors with Baylor Odyssey Sims. Iowa State guard Nicole Blaskowsky and Texas center Imani McGee-Stafford shared co-freshmen of the week honors.
No. 22 Oklahoma hosts No. 23 Iowa State for its annual Pack the Place Pink Game Thursday at 7 p.m. More than 12,000 pink t-shirts will be available to fans thanks to sponsor Academy Sports and Outdoors as OU promotes women's cancer awareness and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund's Play4Kay initiative.
