The MLK Day of service is also being honored here in the metro.
Volunteers with the Oklahoma City Red Cross, along with firefighters, set out Saturday to talk to different neighborhoods about fire safety and being prepared.
The neighborhoods that were targeted were not random. They've had a large number of house fires over the last few years.
"What we do is look at data based on our responses and what we've pick is we've picked an area where there's been a large number of responses as far as fire when we've been called out to provide assistance," said Ken Garcia with the Oklahoma Red Cross.
Remember, if you don't have a working smoke alarm, the Oklahoma City Fire Department will come and install one, for free.
