The Oklahoma Women's basketball team gave coach Sherri Coale the best birthday present they could: a win over Texas.
Aaryn Ellenburg scored 22 points while Joanna McFarland added 15 to lead the No. 16 Sooners (15-3, 5-1) to a 69-56 win over Texas to celebrate Coale's 48th birthday.
Nicole Griffin also reached double-digits for the Sooners, scoring 10 points on 4-8 shooting while Morgan Hook flirted with a triple-double, scoring seven points, grabbing seven boards and dishing out nine assists.
Chassidy Fussell led Texas (7-10, 0-6) with 21 points but was the only Longhorn in double-figures.
Neither team shot the ball particularly well, but OU's ability to knock down the 3-ball made the difference in the ball game. Texas shot 22-57 from the floor (38.6 percent) but only hit 3-14 from downtown. The Sooners shot a comparable 23-58 from the field (39.7 percent), but knocked seven 3-pointers in on the afternoon.
Oklahoma swept the regular-season series with Texas for the fifth time since the formation of the Big 12 Conference.
The Sooners will now have a week to prepare for its toughest test of the season. OU travels to Waco to face No. 1 Baylor Saturday, Jan. 26 at 11:00 a.m.
