No. 21 Oklahoma State used a smothering defense to hold Texas to 30.9 percent shooting en route to a 64-52 win Sunday afternoon.
Toni Young led the Cowgirls with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Brittney Martin scored 16 points. Liz Donohoe had 15 points and point guard Tiffany Bias had 12 assists to lead the OSU offense.
OSU shot just 40.6 percent from the field for the game, but forced 26 Longhorn turnovers which led to 26 Cowgirl points. Chassidy Fussell led Texas with 11 points, while Nneka Enemkpali chipped in with 10 points.
OSU jumped ahead 16-7 with 11 minutes to go in the first half when Donohoe knocked down three free throws after being fouled while attempting a three-pointer. The Longhorns battled back, taking a three-point lead with 2:45 remaining in the half, but OSU responded with an 8-2 run to take a 29-26 halftime lead.
In the second half, OSU steadily built upon its lead, going up by as many as 17 with 3:26 remaining in the game before Texas rallied to cut the lead to the final margin.
The Cowgirls are back in action next Sunday at home against Iowa State. Tip time is set for noon.
