City leaders across the metro are urging people to turn off their sprinklers during this cold weather.

Patches of ice can be spotted on roads after sprinkler systems have been left on overnight.

The City of Edmond says residents have called in the middle of the night thinking a water main has broken.

"We're paying overtime to our crews, when simply winterizing your irrigation system would have prevented that from happening," said Ashleigh Clark with the City of Edmond.

In Edmond, city leaders say community HOAs have left sprinklers on.

Oklahoma City is also warning people and businesses to turn off their sprinklers.
