Oklahoma State's women's basketball team opened its 2012-13 campaign on Wednesday night with a 118-43 exhibition victory over Central Oklahoma in front of 2,074 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The Cowgirls put on an offensive show, shooting 65 percent from the floor and finishing with seven players in double figures. Senior Toni Young led the way with 26 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Classmate Lindsey Keller added 16 points, while freshman Brittney Martin was impressive in her debut. The Syracuse, Utah native hit seven of her nine shots from the floor en route to a 16-point performance of her own.
The 118 points scored by the Cowgirls were the highest point total in an exhibition contest by the program since scoring 126 against the Oklahoma Flyers on Nov. 8, 2008.
Defensively, OSU held the Bronchos to a 27 percent shooting night and forced 25 turnovers.
The Cowgirls scored the first 12 points of the game and never looked back, holding UCO scoreless through the game's first five minutes. Keller put OSU up by 20 at 22-2 with 13 minutes to go on a jumper. Young scored a layup with 14 seconds remaining to send the Cowgirlsinto the break with their biggest lead of the half at 54-22.
OSU strung together a 19-0 run over a seven-minute period in the second half to build its lead to 93-30.
Junior Kendra Suttles came off the bench with 15 points, while junior Tiffany Bias added 10 points and a game-high seven assists. Sophomores Jordan Schultz and Liz Donohoe each reached double figures as well, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Cowgirls will open their regular season on Friday at 5:30 p.m. against Cal Poly in Stillwater.
