Patrol officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department will soon roll out in new police cars. The department purchased 78 newly redesigned 2013 police interceptor sedans, 54 of which are front wheel drive and 24 are all-wheel drive.

The department said two police interceptor sport utility vehicles also were purchased and will be used by the K-9 unit. The sedans are equipped with the 3.5 liter police interceptor engine. All sedans were designed off of the newly re-designed Ford Taurus chassis, while the police utility interceptor's design was based on the Ford Expedition chassis. The Ford Motor Company specifically designed the vehicles for law enforcement emergency police operations.

The vehicles are solid black with the word "Police" written in white, block letter on both sides of vehicle. The seal of Oklahoma City is located in the upper front quarter panel sections of the front doors.

All of the vehicles are equipped with the low profile LED emergency light bar, spotlights and front bumper push bars.

The department plans to order additional vehicles in the future as the money becomes available. You can expect to see these new vehicles on the streets within the next few weeks.
