The Oklahoma City RedHawks continued their hot streak Saturday night, defeating the Round Rock Express, 5-4.
The RedHawks scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to establish a lead they would not relinquish. The win was the fourth in five games for OKC after dropping 10 consecutive games.
Jarred Cosart got the win for OKC, while Willie Eyre took the loss for Round Rock. Jose Valdez worked the ninth for his 15th save of the season.
The Express put up two runs in the bottom of the first to establish a 2-0 lead right out of the gate. Round Rock increased their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single from Robinzon Diaz.
OKC got on the board for the first time in the top of the sixth with a solo homer from Carlos Corporan. However, Round Rock countered with a run of their own off a RedHawks error in the bottom of the seventh to increase the lead to three once again.
In the pivotal eighth inning, the RedHawks put two men aboard, and then scored a run on a throwing error by Eyre. Matt Downs then doubled to score Jimmy Paredes and advance Brian Bixler to third. After two straight strikeouts, Jose Martinez singled to left to bring home both Bixler and Downs.
With the RedHawks recent hot streak, OKC has drawn within five games in their division of first place Albuquerque. If the RedHawks can continue their winning ways, a four-game series with the Isotopes in OKC at the end of August could prove to be huge.
The Express and RedHawks square off again tomorrow in Round Rock at 6:05 p.m.
