History could be made tonight at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, as the Oklahoma City RedHawks look for their 13th consecutive home victory when they take on the Iowa Cubs at 7:05 p.m.
The 13 consecutive wins would tie the old record, set back in 1999 when the RedHawks won their final 13 home games of the season.
The RedHawks also won the first two home games of the 2000 season following that streak.
Last night, the RedHawks won the third of a four game set with the Cubs, 6-5, thanks in large part to Mike Hessman's two-homer night. Hessman's second home run came in the bottom of the seventh, and the blast proved to be the difference in the game.
The Cubs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on an RBI single by Anthony Rizzo in the first, and Ty Wright's solo home run in the fourth.
The RedHawks countered with three runs of their own in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead. Hessman's first homer, along with another solo shot from Jimmy Paredes tied the game at two. Angel Sanchez then capped a string of three straight singles by driving in a run to put the RedHawks in front.
The Cubs regained the lead with three runs in the sixth, but the RedHawks quickly tied the game at five in the bottom of the inning.
Hessman's heroics came with one out in the seventh, when he put the first pitch from Esmailin Caridad out of the park to put the RedHawks in front to stay.
Juan Abreu retired the side in order in the ninth to record his third save for the RedHawks.
Tonight, Wes Musick will make his fourth start of the year for the RedHawks, after picking up his first Triple-A win against Nashville last Thursday. Frankie De La Cruz will be on the bump for the Cubs, and boasts a 2.78 ERA this season.
