DALLAS, Texas – OSU's quick little Tuesday trip to Dallas didn't work out exactly like the Cowboys had planned.
Oklahoma State picked up an unfortunate mid-week loss coming in the form of a 7-4 defeat to Dallas Baptist.
It was OSU's final nonconference game of the season and probably not the way the Cowboys wanted to end it. They still have one conference series remaining against Texas A&M.
OSU got off to a rough start in the game and could never fully recover. It gave up two runs each in the first and second innings to get into a quick 4-0 hole.
In the top of the third, however, RBIs from Hunter Bailey and Robbie Rea brought home two runs to cut the deficit in half.
Later in the sixth inning, Mark Ginther singled to left center to bring home Randy McCurry and Rea and tie the game.
But it would be a short-lived tie as those were the last two runs OSU would manage in the game.
DBU rattled off two runs in the bottom of the sixth and an insurance run in the seventh to put the game on ice.
Michael Smith picked up the win on the mound for the Patriots, throwing three innings and giving up three hits in relief.
Kenton Bevacqua got the loss for Oklahoma State in 3.2 innings of play, giving up two hits and an earned run.
OSU dropped to 32-20 with the loss and will finish out the regular season this weekend against Texas A&M.
First pitch on Friday in Stillwater is set for 6:30 p.m.
