Police have released surveillance video of a robber who had to break out of a southeast Oklahoma City convenience store after robbing the place.
The man walked into Planet Food Mart in the 2600 block of S. Central Avenue on April 20. He jumped over the counter and demanded the clerk give him cash. The clerk refused. The robber threatened him and claimed to have a gun, but the clerk still refused to open the cash register.
The clerk backed away and began to call 911. The robber then jumped over the counter, pulled out a knife and tried to open the cash register himself.
When the robber was unable to open the register, he pulled it off the counter and tried to run out of the store. He dropped the register, spilling dollar bills and coins all over the floor. The robber grabbed a handful of cash and coins and tried to run out of the store, but couldn't because the clerk hit a button and engaged the magnetic lock.
After several attempts, the man finally forced opened the door and ran out. A witness said he saw the man climb into a green Chevrolet pickup with a second suspect, and the two drove away. The clerk was not hurt.
Police are hoping someone will see the video and recognize the robber. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (405) 235-7300. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
