Four unearned runs sent the Oklahoma State Cowgirls to a 5-1 loss Saturday, securing the series win for the Texas Longhorns in the process.
After a hit-by-pitch put Nadia Taylor on base, Torie Schmidt singled to put runners on first and second with one out on the board. Mandy Ogle reached and advanced to second on a throwing error, allowing Taylor to score, the first run of the game.
Taylor Thom followed with a double to right center, bringing Schmidt and Ogle home to take a 3-0 advantage. Taylor Hoagland capped off the scoring with a bunt single in the next at-bat, allowing Thom to score and take a four-run lead.
Brejae Washington put another run on the board in the bottom of the third thanks to a sacrifice fly to push the Longhorns' advantage to 5-0.
Texas starter Blaire Luna (16-3) kept the Cowgirls off balance, giving up one earned run on two hits, while striking out nine in a complete-game performance. The only earned run came in the top of the fourth on a single from Amy Graham to score Gessenia DeLaCruz home.
Simone Freeman (7-7) picked up a loss for the outing, giving up five runs, just one earned, on three hits in just two innings of service.
The Cowgirls will be in action at 7 p.m. Wednesday for the final Bedlam matchup of the season, before a weekend series against the Baylor Bears.
