WICHITA, Kansas – The Cowboys' game on Tuesday night couldn't have been any closer, but unfortunately for them only one team could come away with a win.
OSU dropped a 2-1 decision to Wichita State in 11 tense, drawn-out innings.
The offense was hard to come by but the Shockers finally executed well in the bottom of the 11th to wrap things up.
WSU's Tyler Baker reached base on a single, then eventually advanced over to third on a stolen base and another single.
Dayne Parker ended up singling to center field to bring home the winning run.
OSU's only score of the day came in the eighth inning as pinch hitter Saulyer Saxon found his way on base. He eventually came home on a single from centerfielder Jarrett Higgins, and that was all the Cowboys could do to tie the game and force extra innings.
Wichita State had scored the game's first run in the bottom of the sixth.
The pitchers responsible for the long, slow game included Randy McCurry of the Cowboys, who threw 4.2 innings and didn't give up a run. Chase Stevens got the loss for Oklahoma State after throwing 3.2 innings and giving up the run in the 11th.
Wichita State's Kris Gardner and Cale Elam combined to throw eight scoreless innings as Elam got the win for the Shockers.
OSU will host Northeastern State on Wednesday night in Stillwater before staying home for a weekend series with Texas Tech.
