AUSTIN, Texas – After the Cowboys finally managed to find a bit of a winning streak, Texas couldn't wait to bring them right back down to earth.
OSU fell in a doubleheader to the Longhorns on Saturday, getting shut out 5-0 in the first game and falling 3-2 in the second.
Though the first game didn't provide a whole lot of excitement, the second was a lot closer throughout.
With the game tied at two in the eighth inning, Texas' Mark Payton came through for his team sending a solo home run over the left field wall to give them the edge.
OSU starter Vince Wheeland was having an impressive game and still ended up pitching the complete game despite picking up the loss.
He allowed two earned runs, five hits and didn't give up a walk in his first career complete game.
OSU had a tying runner on third in the ninth inning but couldn't bring him home as Mark Ginther popped out to finish the game.
Oklahoma State moved to 18-16 overall and 5-7 in Big 12 conference play with the loss. Texas moved to 20-13 and 9-3.
The Cowboys will hit the field again on Tuesday when they travel to Wichita State to take on the Shockers.
