Senate To Honor OSU Women's Basketball Team Thursday

The Cowgirls will be honored for their outstanding 2012 season at the State Capitol.

The Oklahoma State Senate will honor the accomplishments of the Oklahoma State women's basketball team Thursday at the State Capitol.

Thursday morning at 10 a.m. the Cowgirls will be recognized on the senate floor for their success during the 2011-12 season as they overcame tragedy and came together to eventually win the WNIT championship for the first time in school history.

Head Coach Kurt Budke and Assistant Coach Miranda Serna along with OSU alumni and former Oklahoma State Senator Olin Branstetter and his wife, Paula perished in a plane crash on November 17, 2011.

Jim Littell, who was an assistant coach for the team, stepped into the head coaching position after the tragedy and led the Cowgirls for the remainder of the season.

Oklahoma State finished the season with a 22-12 overall record and an 8-10 mark in conference play. In addition, Coach Littell became the first head coach to eclipse the 20-win mark in their first year at the helm of the program.
