WACO, Texas – Exciting game, unfortunate result for the Cowboys.
Despite a thriller, Oklahoma State probably wishes it could have redone the finish of its 5-4 loss to the Baylor Bears on Sunday.
After going into extra innings tied at three runs apiece, OSU appeared to have broken through in the 13th inning with a run.
Trey Whaley reached base and then advanced to third for the Cowboys on a wild pitch. Saulyer Saxon came in to pinch hit and managed a single to bring Whaley home and break the tie that had lasted for five innings.
But after OSU's defense had held strong the entire time, it ended up giving two runs to end the game in the bottom of the same inning.
BU's Josh Ludy and Josh Turley provided the RBIs that brought home the tying and winning runs.
Oklahoma State gave up multiple opportunities to separate themselves in the game, leaving 13 runners stranded on the afternoon.
Whaley and Robbie Rea combined for seven hits to lead OSU offensively.
Blake Barnes suffered the loss on the mound, throwing five innings and giving up seven hits and two runs. Vince Wheeland threw six innings for OSU, giving up three hits and three runs.
The loss sets the Cowboys back to 1-5 in Big 12 play and 14-14 overall. Baylor stayed perfect in league play at 9-0 and 22-7 overall.
OSU will have a Tuesday matchup with longtime rival Wichita State in Stillwater. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
