Blanchard Man Charged With Murder Out On Bond

Dustin Stewart arrived home just before 5:30 Thursday evening.  After learning the news that Stewart was bonded out of jail, Blanchard residents wondered if the man who never pulled the trigger should be charged with murder.

The Stewarts arrived home with their son shortly after Dustin was bonded out of jail. Neither Dustin nor his family would talk on camera and neither would any of their neighbors. Everyone in the area had nothing but good things to say about the Stewarts, including Dustin who is now looking at serious prison time.

"It's unfortunate for [Dustin] ... [the charge] seems a little serious ... but that's the rule," Blanchard resident Dean Oxley said. "You got to play by the game."

It was New Year's Eve when Sarah McKinley says Justin Martin broke into her home with the help of Dustin Stewart.

McKinley says she shot and killed Martin to protect her baby and herself. Police say Stewart ran away from the scene, but under Oklahoma law, he is now charged with the murder.

Five days later, McKinley is still shook up about the incident.

"It's a help when people say I did the right thing," McKinley said. "Of course, you question it, and you wonder if you could have done something different."

Looking back, McKinley says she did do the right thing.

"They made a decision to break into my house, and I made a decision that was right for me," McKinley said.

The news of Stewart being bonded out jail is making life for McKinley uneasy. She says she carries a gun with her 24/7 and she is "ready, waiting and watching."

Prosecutors say both men were looking for pain medication inside the home that belonged to McKinley's late husband.

Stewart is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on May 23rd.
