OKLAHOMA CITY – The Texas Stars burst out of the gate with an offensive attack that the Barons couldn't recover from.
Texas fired off three goals in the first period on its way to a 3-2 win Tuesday evening at the Cox Convention Center.
The win snapped a three-game Oklahoma City winning streak, dropping the Barons to 19-7-0-1 on the season.
The Stars jumped on the board first at the 3:33 mark as Stephen Schultz recorded a tip-in goal. Raymond Sawada and Colton Sceviour each added goals in the first period, giving Texas a 3-0 lead heading into the first break.
David LeNeveu replaced Yann Davis in the goal for OKC, and was effective in the second period, stopping 10 shots on goal. Oklahoma City's offense couldn't get going, however, putting up just two shots on goal of its own in the period.
With both teams down a man in the third, OKC's Taylor Chorney broke the scoring drought for the Barons with his second goal of the year at the 8:31 mark. Bryan Helmer and Ryan Keller provided assists.
Keller provided the second and final goal of the game for the Barons, but it only served to make the score look better on paper, for it came with just one second remaining in the game. Chris VandeVelde picked up the assist.
In the end, the shot advantage spelled the difference in the game as Texas held a 30-19 advantage after the final buzzer.
OKC will hit the ice again on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. as it faces the Houston Aeros inside the Cox Convention Center.
