OKLAHOMA CITY --It's a day to encourage holiday shoppers to show the love for the mom and pop stores after millions were spent at the large retailers on Friday.
"Rather go to the small stores today, don't like the big stores we go to, all the big shops downtown," shopper Candace Hoback said.
Candace and Camden Hoback prefer the small business Saturday shopping pace. Local shop supporters think they know why.
"No pepper spray required, haha," Bricktown Marketplace, Chad Huntington joked.
At Oklahoma's Red Dirt Emporium, shoppers found those one-of-a kind Oklahoma items they wouldn't see at bigger stores on Black Friday.
"I can find the little trinkets. I can take them back to Houston with me and give away to my friends and say hey, this is where I'm from," Oklahoma native, Marlon Smith said.
"Bricktown was buzzing and we had quite a few customers come through, so, an encouraging start," Bricktown Marketplace partner, Chad Huntington said.
Small Business supporters said the money spent on what's dubbed as the Local Black Friday makes Oklahoma communities stronger.
