Oklahoma city residents can breathe a sigh of relief. City council members voted Tuesday morning not to increase traffic ticket fines as a way to pay for the new Oklahoma City police headquarters and municipal courts complex.
The new headquarters will cost $50 million. Council members were given two options on how to fund the complex.
The first one included using the Maps 3 Use Tax Fund. Under this option, police would go for one year without new vehicles.
The second option meant using the Maps 3 Use Tax Fund and increasing traffic ticket fines.
Mayor Mick Cornett told the council he did not like the idea of raising ticket prices because they are already high. Councilman Gary Marrs agreed and made a motion to select option one funding. The city council unanimously approved the first option.
