University of Oklahoma women's soccer coach Nicole Nelson has resigned from her position with the Sooner squad.
"After much contemplation, I have determined it is in the best interest of the program to seek new leadership," said Nelson when the announcement was made Saturday. "I appreciate the experience I've had at OU and am confident that the future is bright."
Nelson was the head coach for the Sooners for four years and held a record of 29-46-6.
OU Vice President and Athletics Director Joe Castiglione thanked Nelson for her work in the program.
"We recognize that Nicole has dedicated herself to OU women's soccer and we're grateful for all her efforts on our behalf," said Castiglione. "We wish her success and she moves forward."
Prior to joining the Oklahoma staff, Nelson was an assistant coach at Baylor and Texas. She was the head coach at Stephen F. Austin from 2002-04, with a mark of 33-19-9.
Castiglione said the search for a new coach will begin immediately.
