YUKON, Oklahoma -- The Czech Festival was a fun time for people in Yukon to strut their stuff. From cops to kids, everyone seemed to parade around and take it all in.
In the midst of the good time, Richland volunteer firefighters were working to raise money for their department. They were raffling a donated electric car.
While the car will make a Yukon homeowner happy, the proceeds will pay dividends for these hometown heroes. People didn't mind paying $10 a ticket for a chance to win.
"Let's help firefighters. I used to be a part of a volunteer department myself. It helps them help us," Chuck Haden said.
The small volunteer fire department can use all the help they can get. Chief Mike Clark said they have the manpower, but need money and space.
"We are really tight in our existing station. When we do training, we have to pull everything out and during winter months with freezing temperatures that's pretty tough," Chief Clark said.
So they are adding on to the existing station and doing all of the construction works themselves. They expect to be completed by October 13.
