OKLAHOMA CITY -- Nothing bugs me more than wasting good money and precious time on a bad movie. Fortunately, "Our Idiot Brother" made me glad I'd handed over my cash and spent 95 minutes in a cool, dark theater.
Actor Paul Rudd (love that guy!) plays Ned, the "idiot brother" in the movie. He's a nice guy with a spotty job history who always sees the best in people, but his openness and tendency to spill secrets cause all sorts of problems. Ned ends up in jail after a hilarious encounter with a cop. When he's released, his Mother Earth-girlfriend gives him the boot. He ends up bouncing from his mother's house to all three of his sisters' couches.
His sisters, Miranda (Elizabeth Banks), Natalie (Zooey Deschanel), and Liz (Emily Mortimer) have all sorts of issues and Ned's brief stays in their homes stir up loads of drama.
Ned is a loveable goof who rarely thinks before he speaks, but he's no idiot. He's that person in your family you love to death, but he drives you crazy because he just doesn't know when to shut up. You know you have that relative. And although they may frustrate you, sometimes they offer some surprising insights about your life.
Bottom line: I really enjoyed this movie. My executive producer says I need to come up with a ratings system for these movies. Should I go with stars, boxes of popcorn, movie candies? I personally thought we should go with images of my future husband Prince Harry, but he nixed that idea. So for now, let's go with movie candies.
My rating: 3.5 movie candies out of 5.
Warning: This movie is R-rated and is not family friendly.
