NORMAN, Oklahoma – Emily Collins is no stranger to golf tournaments. Her latest golfing quest coming up in July will be her biggest to date.
Collins, a member of the University of Oklahoma women's golf team, will play in the 2011 U.S. Women's Open at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The 18-year-old Collins admits that she even surprised herself when she qualified for the Open on May 31st at Prestonwood Country Club in Plano, Texas.
"It really gives me a lot of confidence. I always know I had potential, but this is like an awakening, that I can really go somewhere with this.
Emily's father will caddy for her in Colorado. The Fourth of July will be the first chance for Collins to play the East Course at the Broadmoor.
The nerves of the Texas native will be tested right out of the gates , Collins is scheduled to play with Michelle Wie, Morgan Pressel and Maria Hjorth in her first practice round.
The U.S. Women's Open starts on Thursday, July 7th.
Collins is only the second OU Golfer to qualify for the U.S. Women's Open while playing for the Sooners.
