OKLAHOMA CITY, OK -- A bizarre bank robbery happened in Oklahoma City Thursday.
According to the FBI, the robber actually took a taxi to rob the bank.
FBI agents say at about 11 o'clock the robber walked into the Interbank at 50th and May. He told tellers he had a firearm, demanded cash, then took off.
Surveillance video would later reveal he arrived on the scene in a taxi.
"It's a little unusual that an individual would take a cab to rob a bank," said FBI spokesperson Clay Simmonds. "Usually they have their own mode of transportation."
His next stop: Ziggy's, where employees say the robber, a regular customer, arrived in a cab, paid cash for a motorcycle and $150 dollars worth of clothing and other merchandise then left.
FBI agents tracking the taxi weren't far behind.
"Investigators went down to that shopping center at 39th and North Penn, made some inquiries and determined the individual had a t-shirt associated with the city mission," said Simmonds.
Once at the mission, agents saw the motorcycle parked outside and arrested its new owner, Jeffrey Tyrell, 32.
The legal process is not totally unfamiliar to Tyrell. His rap sheet is a long one. The charges are mostly traffic or drug related, but Tyrell was convicted on grand larceny charge in 1997.
Tyrell will make a first appearance in Federal court Friday on bank robbery charges.
