OKLAHOMA CITY -- After a year and a half of construction, the elephants at the Oklahoma City Zoo finally have a new home.
The new elephant habitat covers more than nine and a half acres at the zoo. The $13 million, state-of-the-art exhibit includes three outdoor yards, pools, a waterfall, shade structures and a more than 15,000 square foot barn.
"We've also built for growth. This is an opportunity for our zoo to be a bigger part of a conservation initiative. And so we're looking at bringing in a bull in the future, being able to have babies, in fact one of our females is pregnant and she's due later this spring," said Laura Bottaro, Oklahoma City Zoo.
The grand opening is this Friday.
