Tinker AFB, Schools Get Help With Snow Removal From County Crews

MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -- During last week's winter storm, District 2 crews helped clear the snow away from the gates at Tinker Air Force Base so essential personnel could get back to work. And they are ready to do it again.

Brian Maughan, the Oklahoma County Commissioner for District 2, said crews are getting their salt and sand trucks and snow plows ready to see action.

During the previous snowstorm, these trucks were used to clear county roads and to help with snow removal at local schools, colleges and Tinker AFB. Tinker AFB handles its own snow removal on base.

According to Maughan, state law does allow county equipment and manpower to be used to assist in snow clearing other than roads.

Over at Oklahoma City Community College, county work crews helped clear the campus parking lots, saving the college and taxpayers thousands of dollars.

OCCC spokesperson Cordell Jordan said every little bit helps and they appreciate all the help from county crews.

As for the other two Oklahoma County districts, they say their road crews are maxed out just clearing snow off all the county roads and are doing the best they can to keep the roads plowed, especially in rural areas.
