OKLAHOMA CITY -- Two groups are working together to save pine trees in the Oklahoma City area.
OKC Beautiful has partnered with the Oklahoma Arborists Association to cut down trees infected with poisonous beatles. Arborists say the disease spread rapidly after hail storms ripped apart trees last spring.
"And those beetles in the larva just started infecting the trees and it accelerated at a rapid rate. So there's a lot of them around, a lot of them diseased, and we recommend anybody if you've got one on your property to pull it down so we can stop it," said Lisa Synar, Executive Director of OKC Beautiful.
Synar said if the infected trees don't come down, Australian pines across Oklahoma may disappear completely.
