Texas Receives Grant To Study High-Speed Rail To Oklahoma City

WASHINGTON -- Texas is getting a $5.6 million federal grant to study establishing a high-speed rail corridor to Oklahoma City.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood on Thursday announced the Texas funding as part of 54 high-speed rail projects in 23 states that will share $2.4 billion.

LaHood says the money is meant to continue developing America's first nationwide program of high-speed intercity passenger rail service.

DOT says the money for Texas is meant to complete feasibility studies, a service development plan and environmental work for the designated corridor linking the Dallas-Fort Worth area and Oklahoma City.

The DOT statement says the rail project potentially could extend to Austin and San Antonio.
