7-Year-Old Killed in Hit-and-Run in Durant

DURANT, Oklahoma -- A young child was killed in a hit-and-run in Durant Sunday.

Police said a 7-year-old boy was hit by 21-year-old Derrick Weaver. Police said Weaver was heading north on S. 4th Street at about noon when he hit the boy as he was riding skateboard on the street.

The boy suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene of the accident.

According to police, witnesses said Weaver fled the scene. Durant police located him shortly after and took him into custody.

Weaver was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident and more charges are expected.

The boy's name has not been released.
