EDMOND, Oklahoma -- The Edmond Fire Department hosted a special presentation Tuesday to thank the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics for donating vehicles seized in drug raids.
Most of the vehicles no longer worked, but they were ideal for training emergency responders for various situations. The fire department's Chief Training Officer John Neely said the vehicles helped create realistic scenarios for fire crews.
"Without the vehicles we don't have realistic training because, as you guys know, when we go out on an instance at a house, there's vehicles around. It's obstacles that we have to deal with," Neely said.
OBN has donated the seized vehicles to emergency responders all over the state. The director of OBN said doing so allowed the agency to create something positive from negative situations.
"You take from the bad guys and give to the good," said OBN Director, Darrell Weaver. "And today we have a partnership with Edmond Fire Department that is really unique, where public servants can come together for the good."
Most of the vehicles were supposed to be thrown out or torn apart for scrap metal. Weaver said it made more sense to use them for a good purpose.
