Staff and Wire Reports
OKLAHOMA CITY -- There will be a continued chance for some storms around the state today. The best chance for storms is in northern parts of the state, where there is a slight risk for severe weather. The main risks with these storms are hail, damaging wind and frequent lightning.
Thunderstorms with winds of up to 60 mph have already damaged at least one building, brought down trees and caused power outages in northern Oklahoma.
Emergency management officials say no injuries were reported Wednesday morning.
Garfield County Emergency Management Director Mike Honigsberg says a grain cooperative's barn in the Drummond area was damaged by winds and nickel-sized hail. He says trees also are down and the towns of Drummond and Waukomis are without power.
Oklahoma Gas and Electric reported 1,564 customers without power in the area.
State Highway 132 also was closed because of downed power lines.
The metro has a 20 percent chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms as well. Expect it to be a hot and humid day with temperatures getting into the lower 90s.
The risk for storms goes down tonight, but you can't rule out a few scattered storms around tomorrow morning. After tomorrow afternoon, the rest of the week will be mostly sunny with highs in the 90s.
