OKLAHOMA CITY -- The NRA claimed that in the wake of the Ft. Hood shooting, some base commanders are tightening the controls on personal firearms belonging to servicemen and women, but Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe wants to put a stop to that.
Inhofe has filed an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that would protect the Second Amendment rights of military members.
Major Nidal Hasan is accused of gunning down 13 people at Ft. Hood last year. While Inhofe said Hasan's actions should be punished in court, he said, "Punishing law abiding citizens who work at military installations and honorably serving members of our military by violating their second amendment rights is not an acceptable approach."
The bill also demands that the military destroy gun ownership records.
