NORMAN, Oklahoma -- Sam Bradford announced Sunday his decision to undergo surgery to repair his injured throwing shoulder. On Monday, he answered questions from the media regarding his decision and his hopes of entering the 2010 NFL Draft.
“I’ve dreamed about coming here. The first time I got hurt this year was tough sitting on the sidelines, but I always knew I was coming back. It was the light at the end of the tunnel,” Bradford said. “To make this decision and realize that I’ve probably played my last game at Oklahoma, it’s really tough.”
Bradford told the media he doesn’t plan on seeking out an agent until after the Sooners’ season. By doing so, he can still travel with the team and take part with his teammates in team activities.
OU’s quarterback also addressed his need to gather information about the decision, which ultimately resulted in the cancellation of his previously-scheduled press conference. One of his worries was not being able to participate in the NFL Draft Combine.
"That was a big part of it,” Bradford said. “It was very important information.”
Throughout the press conference, Bradford stressed how much support his teammates have given him throughout the season.
Head coach Bob Stoops supports Bradford’s decision and is most concerned about the future for the Oklahoma City native.
"We want Sam to pursue the best option for his recovery and future,” Stoops said. “We obviously feel this is best for his long-range future. Sam has led us to two Big 12 championships and an appearance in the national title game, and has demonstrated uncommon leadership skills. He is an absolute role model as a student-athlete and loyal teammate. We appreciate the incredible contributions he has made to this program and university.”
In abbreviated action this season, Bradford threw for 562 yards and two touchdowns in three starts at quarterback.
