OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma catcher J.T. Wise has been named the Big 12's player of the year after leading the conference in hitting.
Wise batted .375 with 17 home runs and 56 RBIs. He ranked second in the league in homers and slugging percentage.
Wise converted from second base to catcher after transferring to Oklahoma from LSU after his sophomore year, and his power numbers picked up as a senior. He hit 10 more home runs this season than he did as a junior.
Wise also threw out a conference-leading 28 baserunners trying to steal.
Oklahoma third baseman Garrett Buechele was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year.
