OKLAHOMA CITY - An Oklahoma City police officer fatally shot a 24-year-old man Thursday morning after he charged at the officer with a knife.
Police were called to the Country Oaks Apartments, 3101 N.W. 150th St., at about 5:30 a.m. Thursday after the Adam Johnson's roommate called to say the man was threatening to commit suicide, police said.
When Officer Christopher Hortness arrived he ordered Johnson to drop his knife, but instead Johnson charged and Hortness fired his gun.
Johnson died at the scene.
"When you have individuals experiencing instability...He was threatening suicide you just don't know why they'd made that decision to do that," Oklahoma City police Capt. Steve McCool said.
Police said it appears officer Hortness acted properly to deal with the threat.
Officer Hortness was placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
