EDMOND, Okla. -- Officials may never know why an Oklahoma City man jumped out of a boat while fishing and drowned in Arcadia Lake Tuesday.
Edmond police spokeswoman Glynda Chu says 52-year-old James Floyd was fishing with his nephew about 12:45 p.m. in the far northeast corner of the lake, where fishing is allowed but swimming isn't.
Chu said for some reason, Floyd jumped into the water and swam over to another fisherman. That man didn't understand what Floyd was saying.
Chu said Floyd then swam to a buoy about 38 feet from shore and went under.
Floyd's nephew called 911 about 12:48 p.m. and divers recovered his body in 10 feet of water at 1:42 p.m.
Chu said it may never be known why Floyd didn't swim back to his boat instead of to the buoy.
