Reward renewed in El Reno man’s death

EL RENO, Okla. -- It's been over a year and still no answers in the death of an El Reno man.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has renewed a $10,000 reward to find 73-year-old James Shaw's killer.

Justin Shaw's father, 73-year-old James Shaw, was found stabbed repeatedly in his El Reno home in May 2007.

Investigators determined the motive was robbery and that it was a random act of violence.

"That's what makes it so hard to solve this," Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Jessica Brown said. "There's no real reason for it other than robbery. We have nobody in the area we can pinpoint."

The OSBI has run out of leads.

"We are discouraged that the person or persons who committed this crime have not been apprehended," Justin said.

The Shaw family is holding on to hope, however. The OSBI has renewed the $10,000 reward in an effort to bring someone forward.

"We're confident that someone out there knows something and we would just encourage them to come forward no matter how insignificant they may think the information is," Justin said.

He said the reward is encouraging and shows him that the investigation has not been forgotten by authorities.

He still asks why this happened to his father, a man he describes as soft-spoken, religious and dedicated to his family.

"I just try not to focus on that too much, there's not a good answer," Justin said.

James Shaw was a retired educator at Redlands Community College. After his death, his family set up a scholarship fund for English and Communication students.
