A total eclipse of the heart

Okay, so I'm not having a total eclipse of the heart, but there will be a total eclipse of the Sun August 1.  But before you go outside chasing shadows, you should know that we won't be able to view it here in Oklahoma.  Sad panda, I know.  Now I'm only falling apart...

But wait!  Turn around!  News9 This Morning on Friday, August 1 will have live coverage of the total solar eclipse as it happens.  Live video of the eclipse will be aired periodically between 5 and 7 a.m. Friday. 

Additionally, thanks to the wonders of the Internet, you can watch the eclipse live as it happens here.  So even if you can't make it to China, or other northern regions of Greenland, Siberia or Mongolia, you can still watch "as the new moon moves directly between the sun and the earth.  The moon's umbral shadow will fall on parts of Canada, Greenland, the Arctic Ocean, Russia, Mongolia, and China."  (Exploratorium.edu)  This simply means that it will look like the Moon is moving in front of the Sun, blotting out its light.

NASA TV will also stream the eclipse as it happens.  You can watch on your home TV or here online. 

The next opportunity for the U.S. to view a solar eclipse is August 21, 2017.
