Many places in Oklahoma on Monday morning experienced a late freeze. Clear skies and light winds let the cooler air that moved into the state over the weekend drop into the low 30's and 20's.
Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City dropped to 31 degrees, but only hovered there for a short time. Temperatures were in the low to mid 30s from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. this morning, before quickly rising back into the 40s. According to the Oklahoma Mesonet, these were the coldest locations this morning:
1. Oilton 24
2. Cookson 25
3. Jay 25
4. Nowata 25
5. Tahlequah 25
6. Pryor 26
7. Buffalo 26
8. Seiling 26
9. Vinita 26
10. Miami 26
11. Mangum 26
12. Hooker 26
13. Westville 26
14. El Reno 26
15. Wister 27
Another widespread freeze is not anticipated in the near future for the western two-thirds of the state. Parts of far southeastern Oklahoma, though, may have freezing temperatures again Tuesday morning. A Freeze Warning is in effect for the following counties: Adair, Haskell, Latimer, Le Flore, Pushmataha, and Sequoyah.
The freezing threat moves eastward Monday night, putting much of the South at risk for a late freeze. Crops are at risk as the growing season is already underway for peaches, apples, cherries, grapes, blueberries, tomatoes, and peppers. Scattered snow flurries are also possible through the South, a rare Spring occurrence for this region of the country.
