A Lawton, Oklahoma, police officer was arrested after authorities said he showed up to work drunk over the weekend.
According to Lawton police, Saturday night, Sergeant Gabriel Hoffman came in late for work due to reported personal reasons. A short time after arriving for work, at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday, Hoffman’s Lieutenant and Captain met with him to pass along some information.
During this contact the Lieutenant noticed Hoffman was unsteady on his feet and slurring his speech. The supervisors believed that Hoffman was under the influence and could smell the odor of alcohol during the contact.
Police said a field sobriety test was performed and based on those results and Hoffman’s actions, he was placed under arrest for APC (Actual Physical Control.) The APC charge was due to him being in the driver’s seat when the supervisors arrived at his location and the vehicle being drivable. However, police said he was not observed by any other officer driving on the roadway.
Hoffman was transported to the Lawton Police station and agreed to take the State’s Breath Test. Upon the results of the test, which was .23 BAC, he was then taken to Lawton City Jail and booked in. He was then processed and transported to the Comanche County Detention Center and booked on charges. He was booked on the charges of APC and Possession of a Firearm while Intoxicated.
Hoffman was arraigned in Comanche County District Court Monday morning for APC and is pending proceedings there. Hoffman has also been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of his court proceedings.
