A man was arrested after authorities said he claimed a device inside his backpack was a hand grenade during a security check at the Oklahoma County Annex Building.
According to the Oklahoma County Sheriff's office (OCSO,) on Tuesday, 34-year-old Justin Henry walked inside the Oklahoma County Annex building, located at 320 Robert S. Kerr Avenue. He was making his way through security when a deputy noticed something strange inside his backpack in the x-ray machine.
The deputy asked Henry if there was a hand grenade inside his backpack. Henry replied, "Yes.” The deputy then asked Henry two more times to clarify if Henry had a hand grenade inside his backpack, and each time Henry answered, "Yes,” according to the Sheriff's office.
Deputies evacuated the area and immediately took Henry into custody. An OCSO bomb technician was called to take a look, and he was able to determine that the device was a blood pressure gauge and cuff.
Due to the fact that Henry claimed the device was a grenade, he was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on a complaint of terrorism hoax. He is being held on $5,000 bond.
