A special needs teenager was nearly beaten to death inside Del City High School, and the accused attackers were a father and son.
The 17-year-old victim is dealing with several injures.
Del City police said the beating stemmed from fight between two other students, and the victim in this case was found last week in a pool of his own blood.
After school hours last Wednesday, one of the custodians was locking up the school when police said the 17-year-old suspect knocked on the door and acted as if he'd left something inside.
“So he lets him into the building,” said Lt. Ted Kleber, Del City PD.
Then the teen walked in, along with his 50-year-old father, Jerry Wayne Walker.
Police said the duo then rushed downstairs and immediately confronted the disabled victim, who also works at Del City High as a custodian.
“Just came up to him and said, ‘What are you doing here?' Those are the exact words he used, and then he hit him. The kid didn't have time to react,” said Lt. Kleber.
Police told News 9 the victim suffers from Lymphedema and is blind in one eye.
“So he started calling 911, and they knocked the phone out of his hand, took his phone from him,” said Lt. Kleber.
Lt. Kleber said the father and son then began taking turns hitting and kicking the teen all over his body as he laid helplessly on the ground.
Police said the two then ran out the building as the victim was semi-conscious, with a concussion as well as swelling and bruising to his upper body and face.
All this because police said one of the suspect's friends got into a fight with another special needs student and the victim stepped in to help.
“He interfered and says, ‘Hey you're my friend, you know, you need to back off and get away,'” said Lt. Kleber.
Police said charges are expected to be filed soon against both Jerry Walker and his son.
