Storms Cause Damage, Power Outages In OKC Metro

Some minor wind damage and flash flooding were reported Wednesday evening and Thursday morning as storms moved across the Oklahoma City area.   

Most of the damage, flooding and hail were reported on the south sides of the metro.  Parts of downtown Oklahoma City were also affected.

OG&E crews are working to restore power for customers who were knocked off the grid overnight due to the storms.

At its peak around midnight, there were an estimated 15,000 OG&E customers without power from Yukon to Oklahoma City.  Power outages are also reported in Midwest City and Choctaw.

As of 9:30 a.m., 317 customers in Oklahoma City and 91 customers in Wayne are still without power.

Flash flooding was reported on several streets across the metro, but there were no significant issues overnight. 

There was a confirmed tornado touchdown on Wednesday evening in Comanche County in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge area.    No significant damage was reported. 

The Oklahoma Mesonet recorded 82 mph winds in Walters, Oklahoma in Cotton County.

There were reports of sirens did go off around midnight at Tinker Air Force Base, but it was not a tornado warning.  

A second round of storms moving across central Oklahoma has brought some heavy rain and high winds Thursday morning as people began heading to work and school in the metro area.
