The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels played the No. 4-ranked and defending NAIA national runner-up Oklahoma City University Stars tough early in the second game, but the Stars pulled away to win 7-2 and finish the doubleheader sweep Tuesday afternoon (Mar. 5) at Ann Lacy Stadium on the OCU campus. The Stars blanked the Lady Evangels 14-0 in the opener.
Sarah Fipps doubled home Kaylee Hendon in the third to make it 1-1, as starter Amber Tinney limited the Stars to only a run through two innings and two runs through three.
The Stars then put two runs on the board in the fourth and a two-run double by Tori Joyner keyed a three-run fifth inning that blew the game open at 7-1.
A double in the seventh by Kenna McCoy plated Kaycee Fowler for the Lady Evangels' second run of the game.
MACU out-hit the Stars 9-8 in the nightcap, but were hurt by three errors that led to three unearned tallies.
Hendon and Tiffany Holt each had two hits to pace the Lady Evangels.
OCU received a pair of RBI from Joyner and Angela Lovelady.
Elizabeth Oberst shut out the Lady Evangels in the first game on only two hits and struck out three.
It was a 1-0 game when Kyndra Holasek powered a four-run second inning with a three-run triple. The Stars added a run in the third before putting it away with an eight-run outburst in the fourth inning.
The Lady Evangels will host Dakota State University tomorrow afternoon (Mar. 5) at 1 p.m. before finishing the four-game series with OCU on Thursday afternoon (Mar. 7) at noon at Jack Allen Field.
