Several Homes In Yukon Flooded Following Storms On Saturday

A metro woman said Saturday's storms led to a "river" running through her home, and she's not alone. Several houses in the neighborhood in Yukon flooded as the heavy rain sent water gushing in.

The Sanchez family has lived in their house for nine years, and until now, they've never had any problem with water coming inside. Now they blame a new development site behind their home for flooding several rooms in their house.

Hours of heavy rain turned their backyard into a small pond. The muddy water pooled behind the house, flowed inside right through the back door.

Janet Sanchez was the only one home when it started coming in. She said once it started, there was nothing she could do.

"I come around and I've got Lake Eufaula here in my kitchen, "said Sanchez.

It flowed through the kitchen, down the hall and into the bedroom. As the water level went down, thick red mud was left behind, a surprising sight for the family who's live here for almost a decade.

"They started moving the dirt and now you can see where our privacy fence stops, there's another six foot of red dirt," Sanchez said.

Sanchez and her husband think that mound of dirt sent the water rushing into their backyard and ultimately into their home.

The Sanchez family spoke with their insurance agent and contractor, and it could cost them thousands to replace their flooring. They also say they spoke with the developer who is coming down to look at the problem on Sunday. Until then, they hope the rain holds off.

Oklahoma City police officers were also busy Saturday evening responding to cars getting stuck in high water.

At least two vehicles got stuck on S.E. 15th between Phillips and High Avenue, an area prone to flooding.
